Overview

I was one of 12 technical writers and 3 tester/producers. I worked with the Microsoft Office team creating end-user documentation for people who used assistive devices such as screensavers. For this project, I wrote 75% of all documents that I authored, and approximately 85% of this sample. About half of procedures that I worked on were based on existing procedures and revised for screenreaders. The others were completely original. Information came from using the programs using JAWS and Narrator, with occasional questions to the program PMs. We had testers who verified the accuracy of the steps and had the writer revise the document; and editors who checked the documents for adherence to the Microsoft Office Style Guide. I wrote or revised 90+ procedures, averaging three per week. I was simultaneously acting as a tester for other writers, and entering the finished procedures into an XML editor. The documents got highly positive remarks from a group of blind computer users.
